BAA loses appeal, must sell Stansted

 |  February 1, 2012

The U.K. Competition Appeal Tribunal has affirmed the Competition Commission’s ruling that BAA must sell Stansted airport. The Competition Commission in 2009 had ordered BAA to divest Gatwick and Stansted, as well as either Glasgow or Edinburgh airports. The BAA has already sold Gatwick and has agreed to sell Edinburgh, but argued that Stansted should not be sold because it and Heathrow do not serve the same market, and so BAA can thereby continue to operate both airports.
