Brazil: 7 more arrests in Petrobras scandal

Brazil’s Federal Police has issued arrest warrants for 7 more people as part of a new stage in the ongoing investigation over corruption within Petrobras, the state oil company.

The warrants involve members of both the ruling PT and members of the opposition. The bribery scheme, discovered last year, has affected dozens of politicians and businessmen at the head of some of Brazil’s largest companies.

The investigation, nicknamed “Operation Car-Wash”, has rattled the government of president Dilma Rousseff and may weaken the country’s prospects for economic recovery.
