Canada/Japan: Shipping giant sued for car carrier price-fixing

Japan’s largest shipping line Nippon Yusen released a statement Friday confirming a lawsuit launched in Canada against the company over allegations of price-fixing within its car-carrier services. The suit, filed by Ryan Todd Wonch and Margaret A. Wonch, says Nippon Yusen fixed prices but the company did not disclose the monetary value of damages being sought. The lawsuit comes just weeks after a similar case filed by a Florida shipping firm following dawn raids of Japanese shipping lines – including Nippon Yusen – by Japanese regulators; the company confirmed the searches, which occurred last year, concerned price-fixing allegations.
