Colombia: Country clears OECD competition hurdle by joining commission

The OECD has approved Colombia’s bid to join the organisation’s competition commission, President Juan Manuel Santos announced last wednesday. The commission brings together those countries with the best set of public policies on the matter.

President Santos remarked on his government’s intention of continuing to promote good public policy, which makes this tightening of relations with the OECD an important step. “This is not a group of rich countries. It is an organisation that brings together countries that have the best practices, and we are always seeking to improve our own public policies” said the President.

Colombia has long vied for full membership of the OECD club. However, the President reminded the audience that the organisation “Involves 23 committees on different subjects, with countries that wish to join having to pass a kind of ‘exam’ for each of these 23 committees.
