Colombian competition authorities have given the green light to the acquisition of Twenty-First Century Fox by entertainment giant The Walt Disney Company, including its film and television studios.
The regulator determined that “the firms to be merged participate in a coincidental manner in the audiovisual content industry in Colombia,” adding that the merger involved the markets for the “production and supply of films for theaters … television; operation and wholesale supply of television channels, and supply of advertising space”.
The company resulting from the merger in Colombia is expected to lead the audiovisual market in the country, accounting for up to 28% of sales. The Superintendency of Industry and Commerce has determined that the deal would not pose a risk to competitors in the market, nor would be likely to harm competition.
