Competition Buzz: Venezuela’s Competition Law’s Honeymoon

In recent years there have been numerous legislative changes in Venezuela. This article describes the changes that are taking place in the field of Venezuelan competition policy in order to give the reader an overview of the situation of this branch of law in such country. Based on the current Venezuelan Constitution, this analysis provides for the existing legal instruments in the country to ensure the maintenance of effective competition including those belonging to the Andean Community of Nations. In addition, the paper provides for a brief analysis on the Draft Anti-Monopoly, Oligopoly and Unfair Competition Law, allowing the reader to build an opinion on the future of the Venezuelan legislation to ensure effective competition in the market.
