E.CA Economics announced that Alexis Walckiers will be joining its Brussels office as a Director on 1 September 1, 2020. E.CA’s leadership team is now composed of six Directors, working from E.CA’s main offices in Berlin and Brussels, leading a group of more than 40 antitrust economists.
Alexis Walckiers comes to E.CA as the former Chief Economist of the Belgian Competition Authority (BCA). There, together with the team he built up, Alexis advised both investigation teams and competition colleges on the use of economic tools in competition cases. Some of the recent, leading cases during his tenure were the merger between the supermarket chains Ahold and Delhaize and the takeover of De Vijver Media by Telenet (Liberty Global).
Walckiers holds a PhD in Economics from the ECARES Université libre de Bruxelles where he teaches economics at the Solvay business school. His recent papers on vertical restraints and hub-and-spoke collusion have been published in the International Journal of Industrial Organization and the Journal of European Competition Law and Practice.
Hans W. Friederiszick, one of the founding Directors of E.CA Economics, commented, “Alexis has a proven track record of offering robust economic advice in a law & economics setting. This matches E.CA’s strong reputation with European competition authorities.”
