Intel Partners Up With Arm On Chip Manufacturing

Intel announced a partnership with Arm to enable the manufacturing of mobile phone chips and other products that use Arm’s technology in Intel’s factories.

Intel, previously a prominent name in CPU manufacturing, has faced competition from companies like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, who now hold the leading position in chip production for clients including Apple.

As part of Intel’s turnaround strategy, it plans to allow other chip companies, specifically those involved in mobile phones, to use its factories. Qualcomm is among the firms that have expressed interest in utilizing Intel’s factories for future chip designs.

“There is growing demand for computing power driven by the digitization of everything, but until now … customers have had limited options for designing around the most advanced mobile technology,” Pat Gelsinger, Intel’s chief executive, said in a statement.
