Mexico’s Board of Commissioners of the Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE or Commission) appointed José Manuel Haro Zepeda as the new Head of the Investigative Authority, who takes office as of this date for a period of four years.
The new head of the Investigative Authority is an economist from the School of Economics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and holds a M.A. in Economics by the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE).
José Manuel Haro has extensive experience in the fields of economic competition, econometrics, industrial organization and the energy sector. He worked in the extinct Federal Competition Commission (CFC) in 2010, where he held the positions of deputy director and director in the General Directorate of Investigations of Relative Monopolistic Practices and director in the Board of Commissioners. From 2012 to 2016 he worked as advisor to a Commissioner. Until August 31, he was General Director of Market Intelligence at COFECE. Prior to holding this position, during 2017 and 2018 he served as General Director of Markets in the Unit of Liquefied Gas of the Energy Regulatory Commission.
In the academic field, he is a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics at UNAM, where he teaches the subjects of quantitative methods workshop; industrial organization and microeconomics at Tecnológico de Monterrey, and has been a laboratorian professor at Colegio de México and CIDE.
