Mexico: Commissioner Labardini steps up as IFT’s interim president

 |  September 11, 2017

Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) commissioner Adriana Labardini Inzunza will step up as the agency’s new president. Labardini will hold the post as Interim President until a new permanent President can be selected for the new 4-year period, which began this Monday, September 11.

Gabriel Contreras, former president of the IFT, concluded his position this September 10 after holding the position for four years. However, Mexico’s Senate decided not to ratify and renew his post, nor did it appoint a new President from among the current commissioners.

Zoé Robledo Aburto, president of the Senate’s Radio, Television and Cinematography Commission announced that on September 5th the commissioners had been summoned to formally state their intentions whether to participate in the selection process. Five of the seven commissioners expressed their desire to preside over the Institute: Gabriel Contreras Saldívar, María Elena Estavillo Flores, Arturo Robles Rovalo, Adolfo Cuevas Teja and Mario Germán Fromow.
