Following revelations of a possible ‘simulated tendering’ by Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) for the acquisition of light meters, where only two companies, Grupo IUSA and Controles y Medidores Especializados, It has reported that the issue will now be brought under investigation.
Alejandra Palacios, who presides over the Federal Commission for Economic Competition (COFECE), indicated that the complaint was referred to the Investigation Unit to be reviewed “and [determine] in due time whether it is appropriate or should be rejected. The commission has a period of 15 days to analyze it and give a response.”
Palacios stressed that in COFECE this complaint is being followed with great interest “and as in all cases, the Commission does not pre-judge, carries out a technical analysis of the information presented and, if there are elements and objective cause, the case starts. And if not, it is discarded and an explanation must be given. ”
Finally, she explained that when companies are competing with each other and collude, “that is an absolute monopolistic practice, and it is certainly up to the Commission to pursue,” said Alejandra Palacios.
