New Zealand: Sky and Vodafone pressing ahead with merger appeal

 |  May 17, 2017

Sky Television and Vodafone intend to press ahead with an appeal over the Commerce Commission’s decision to refuse them clearance to merge, Vodafone has confirmed.

Vodafone NZ spokeswoman Susan McGregor Bevan said the companies had not yet got a hearing date but would set out grounds for their appeal shortly.

The companies originally filed the appeal in March to “preserve their options” ahead of a legal deadline but it had been unclear whether they intended to follow through.

Sky TV chief executive John Fellet likened the prospect of an appeal to “root canal work” after the competition watchdog blocked the proposed merger of their businesses in February.
