Peru: Gagliuffi sets new goals for market regulator

Ivo Gagliuffi, the recenlty appointed head of Peru’s competition and Intellectual Property regulator INDECOPI, was joined by the leader of the Council of Ministers, Fernando Zavala to present the new set of guidelines that will preside over the agency over the coming years.

Peru’s de facto Chief of Staff held that the elimination of bureaucratic red-tape should be one of the agency’s priorities. In this, he said, it was vital to turn back the clock on a process of increasing bureaucratization seen over the last several years.

“I believe it is important to continue to promote free competition and its benefits for the economy. Also, to expound on what it means to have adequate consumer protection, and the mechanisms that allow it” said Mr. Zavala, who attended the event partly motivated by what he called great love for INDECOPI, where he began his own political career over 20 years ago.
