Peruvian judge Richard Concepción has denied the Prosecutor’s Office request to exclude of former Odebrecht director Jorge Barata from the investigation into bribes paid by the Brazilian construction company to Peruvian officials in exchange for receiving multi-million dollar contracts for public construction works.
Barata, who is accused of collusion against the State, allegedly requested the Prosecutor’s Office exclude him from the investigation in order to continue acting as an effective collaborator and to provide information on the beneficiaries of the bribes paid by his company.
In Peru, the Odebrecht case is focused on tracing US$29 million that the Brazilian company admitted to have paid out to Peruvian officials in exchange for awarding millions of works between 2005 and 2014.
