Perú: INDECOPI slaps fines on colluding transport operators

 |  May 21, 2018

The Peruvian market regulation and consumer rights agency, Indecopi, came down on five land transport companies that cover the route Cajamarca – Cajabamba, when they detected that they had worked to set prices for the service in the period between October 2014 and March of 2015.

The companies involved include Transportes Texas SAC, Transporte Rojas SRL, Transport Company Meléndez SRL, Transport Company and Servicios Multiples Unión SRL, and Corporación Claudimar SAC, which in total would reach penalties for S/352,402 Nuevos Soles (US$108,000, approximately) .

The cartel imposed on its passengers over-charges that reached up to 50% of the price of the transport ticket. The regulator estimates that this practice could have affected approximately 121,000 passengers during the aforementioned period. The infraction was detected based on a complaint from users of the transport service, which motivated the investigation by the Technical Secretariat of the Commission for the Defense of Free Competition, part of INDECOPI.
