Peru/Panama: INDECOPI meets over Panama restrictions on Pura Vida

The National Council for Consumer Protection, part of market and competition regulator INDECOPI, was summoned to an emergency meeting to analyze whether Panama’s claims against milk substitute Pura Vida should apply to Peru.

Panama has stopped the entry of Pura Vida, considering that the product can not be sold as milk, because it is only ‘pretending’ to be milk. Yuri Huerta, administrator of the Panamanian Authority for Food Safety (AUPSA), indicated that the beverage produced by the Gloria Group “has other elements in it, its elaboration process, so that it can not be promoted as evaporated milk “.

Panama’s Ministry of Health noted that the Gloria Group’s brand “does not comply with the general standard for pre-packaged food labelling.” Gloria will have to adapt the product to the established norms.The Gloria Group indicated that it will adapt to the requirements within two months.
