South Africa: Number-three mobile carrier challenges top two rivals with complaint
South Africa’s third-largest mobile carrier Cell C filed an antitrust complaint against its top two rivals, MTN Group and Vodacom, on Wednesday, alleging the companies of “discriminatory pricing.”
Cell C released a statement confirming the complaint filing over the rates charged by MTN and Vodacom for their customers to make calls to other networks.
Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig described the rates as “without a doubt anti-competitive when adopted by dominant operators.”
The complaint was lodged with the Competition Commission as the nation’s telco watchdog announced plans to cut such wireless fees charged to call other networks by 75 percent by 2016.
