South Korea: Acting president picks new vice chairman of antitrust watchdog

Acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn on Wednesday promoted Shin Young-son, the secretary-general of the Fair Trade Commission, to vice chairman.

Shin will replace Kim Hack-hyun whose term is due to expire on Thursday.

Since entering public service in 1987, Shin has served in various posts at the antitrust watchdog, including those in charge of market analysis and competition policy.

“Shin has passion about his work and a strong sense of responsibility, and is equipped with capabilities to plan and push for projects, all of which makes him suitable for the post,” Hwang’s office said in a statement.
