Spain: Cement industry probe expanded

 |  April 14, 2015

Spain’s competition authorities have announced an expansion to their probe into the cement industry, which will now investigate 4 additional companies for alleged monopolistic practices.

The investigation will include Spanish affiliates of major multinationals, including Holcim and Lafarge. The companies involved join 9 other cement manufacturers and distributors who have already been sanctioned.

Information gathered during early searches led the CNMC to deduce the likely participation of these companies in a series of agreements including he exchange of sensitive information, price-fixing and carving out of territories, all of which represent violations to the country’s Competition Law.
