Grocery-delivery service ‘Just Eat’ has announced plans to purchase ‘La Nevera Roja’, it’s main competitor, from owners Rocket Internet. The German firm had purchased La Nevera Roja in February 2015 from founders Jose del Barrio and Inigo Juantegui, for 80 million euros.
Just Eat is the market leader in Spain, with the purchase practically assuring it monopoly status, with approximately 6 million deliveries daily. Details on the transaction have not yet been revealed.
Just Eat dominates de delivery market in Spain’s smaller cities, with La Nevera Roja representing serious competition only in larger cities such as Barcelona and Madrid. This would be the third takeover of a rival by Just Eat, having bought out Sin Delantal in 2012 and Food2U in 2015.
