Spain: Councilors Lorenzo and Ormaetxea join Regulatory Supervision committee at CNMC

 |  October 2, 2017

The former members of the now extinct Telcommunication Market Commission (CMT), Bernardo Lorenzo and Xabier Ormaetxea, have joined the Regulatory Supervision group at the CNMC. The pair arrive after receiving government approval, in compliance with a judicial ruling, forcing the CNMC to accept them into the organization.

The plenary of the CNMC has determined the new composition of its working groups after the incorporation of the new councillors. Lorenzo and Ormaetxea will join the Regulatory Supervision Room, which will continue to be chaired by María Fernández. The councillors were incorporated following a ruling by the Supreme Court, which considered their firing after the dismantling of the CNT to be illegal, forcing thier reinstatement to the regulator’s successor, the CNMC.

The appointment of Lorenzo and Ormaetxea marks another step towards the renewal of the CNMC’s board, which began last June yet had been postponed by political instability, which led Spain to be around a year under a care-taker government.
