Representatives of more than 300 neighborhood associations from nine autonomous communities registered a petition before the Chamber of Deputies calling for the president of the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) to explain how the controversial “Study on the Regulation of Housing for Tourist Use (VUT) in Spain” was prepared.
“We consider that the striking coincidences between the positions taken by the CNMC and the position held by AirBnB demands an investigation that clarifies what the process for preparing this report has been and whether there have been meetings, telephone calls, visits, etc., what was discussed in all these meetings, and who attended,” said a joint statement by the neighborhood representatives, which include neighborhood associations from Madrid, Barcelona and Ávila, as well as the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Historic Centers of Andalusia and the Coordinator of Neighborhood Associations of Central Madrid.
The neighborhood associations have also stated they consider “the interference of the CNMC unjustifiable and out of place when announcing their appeals against the rules set by City governments.”
