Spain: Regulator criticizes Government over restrictions on Uber, Cabify

 |  January 29, 2019

Spain’s National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has issued a report on the Royal Decree on the Regulation of Land Transport (PRO / CNMC / 003/18) approved on January 17, which holds that “the current regulation on taxis and VTC (Transport Vehicles with Driver) contains restrictions that unnecessarily harm end users …”

The CNMC believes that the main effects of the Royal Decree will be felt by travelers, who will face increased prices for their journeys, and “will deprive the current VTCs of the possibility of offering urban routes which will increase market segmentation …”

The regulator recommended adopting a global approach to the tourist vehicles sector, in such a way that the regulation respects the principles of good economic regulation for the benefit of consumers and users.
