UK: Watchdog investigates Big Six energy firms over manipulation of market and making excessive profits
The Competition & Markets Authority is due to release preliminary results from its investigation into the energy sector on Wednesday.
The CMA is expected to highlight the profitability of the leading companies, the market power of the energy generators and the poor treatment of longstanding customers.
The CMA is poised to claim that the profits of leading energy companies are far higher than they have admitted, This Is Money reported on Monday. The CMA is also expected to address the treatment of long-standing customers, who make up the bulk of the customer base. The regulator believes these are the ones most likely to have a bad deal.
