Mark Tobey has left public service after over three decades to join Husch Blackwell as a senior counsel in its food and agribusiness industry group in Austin, Texas.
In 1988, a few years out of law school, Tobey was recruited to the antitrust division of the Texas Attorney General’s Office, where he stayed for 21 years and led the office’s enforcement efforts across a range of industries.
Ten years ago, he moved to the United States Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, where he was the competition policy and advocacy section’s special counsel for state relations and agriculture. In this capacity, he worked with agriculture producers and processors concerning rulemaking and regulation for poultry, dairy, and cattle, as well as seeds and chemicals.
He also worked with agricultural advocacy groups and the Department of Agriculture, and liaised with agency leadership on enforcement and state cooperation policy. Tobey also has experience handling merger review and conduct with the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general.
Husch Blackwell’s food and agribusiness industry group leader Steve Carman commented in a statement that Tobey is a “leading authority on competition and antitrust matters pertaining to agriculture,” and also cited his “broad network of relationships, including trade groups, business executives, state and federal legislators, enforcers, regulators, and administrative policymakers,” which will benefit the firm’s clients.
