US: FTC investigating changes to auto-bidding site TrueCar.com

 |  December 18, 2013

The US Federal Trade Commission is reportedly probing recent changes to the auto shopping site TrueCar.com after the site received complaints against the site’s business practices.

TrueCar.com initially used a model that allowed consumers to view various dealers’ bids in efforts to compete for winning offers. Now, however, dealers cannot see each other’s bids.

The FTC is now investigating whether such car dealers that complained about the site colluded to not do business with the company, and whether prices rose because of the dealers’ decision not to work with the site.

Reports say the investigation was announced last September to the auto trade industry.
