US Resumes Expedited Antitrust Merger Reviews

 |  March 29, 2020

The federal government will resume granting early clearance to deals that don’t need additional antitrust scrutiny after the practice was temporarily halted due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

Antitrust enforcers at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Justice Department will return to the normal process of granting early termination of reviews for a handful of deals starting March 30, the FTC announced Friday, March 27.

Early terminations commonly occur when the government determines a deal doesn’t require additional antitrust scrutiny, allowing parties to close deals sooner than the normal 30-day waiting period set by Congress.
