Introduction To The Book On “Economic Analysis In EU Competition Policy”

The introductory chapter provides an overview of the structure and content of the book. In addition, it points out the emerging trends on the role of economic analysis in EU competition policy identified in the following chapters of the book. First of all, the book analyses the jurisprudence of the EU Court of Justice, which recently has become more supportive of an effect-based analysis in EU competition policy. Secondly, the volume discusses the challenges of applying economic analysis in the digital economy. Third, the book discusses economic methods to estimate damages in cases of private enforcement of EU competition law. Finally, the book analyses the challenges faced by judges in reviewing the economic evidence relied by competition agencies in their decisions and how these may be overcome.
